Movie Night
From GrinningMonkey
The general idea is having an outdoor / backyard-style movie night.
[edit]
Video
The video system will be a projector.
The screen will be a large piece of neutral light grey canvas cut to a fairly large 16:9 size.

Screen
I came up with a bunch of different possible dimensions, with the intention of comparing them to the dimensions of my current screen.
My current screen is fine with respect to brightness, but there are three factors which come into play for comparing to the new outdoor screen:
- It will be slightly brighter in the backyard, even at night (negative against contrast)
- The screeen will be bigger so it will be less bright (negative against brightness)
- The screen will be a material which reflects light differently than my current screen (negative against contrast and possibly brightness)
- I will put my projector into extra-bright mode (positive for brighness, negative for bulb life d:)
| Dimension (ft) | Dimension (in) | Diagonal (in (ft)) |
|---|---|---|
| 16' × 9' | 192" × 108" | 220.29" (18.36') |
| 14' × 7'10.5" | 168" × 94.5" | 192.75" (16.06') |
| 12' × 6'9" | 144" × 81" | 165.22" (13.77') |
| 10' × 5'7.5" | 120" × 67.5" | 137.68" (11.47') |
| 8' × 4'6" | 96" × 54" | 110.15" (9.18') |

Audio
There will be two forms of audio:
- Outdoor speakers
- For the movie talkers among us. There will be a set of outdoor speakers, set to a low volume so as not to annoy the neighbours. Bass will be particularly crappy, and the amp. will probably be only 2 channel.
- Headphones
- There will be an FM transmitter so that the audience may bring a radio and headphones. Same 2 channel crappiness, better bass. A compromise between good sound and social awareness can be found using cheap budphones.
